Mangaluru: As a part of the ‘Beary Language Week’, the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy conducted an interaction session with the top local literary icons of Beary language in Srinivas Hotel hall on Saturday, October 8. The panelists were asked a number of questions regarding Beary alongside the other local and state languages.

The recent Dr. Devraj Urs awardee, B A Mohideen answered the questions from the audience which ranged from literature to arts, women empowerment and scope for improvement in Beary language vis-a-vis other languages. The entire event was conversed in Beary but some parts translated to Kannada for the members of the press to understand.
The moderator of the discussion, B M Haneef Bengaluru addressed the gathering and said, the the Beary language over the years had spread to Shivamogga, Chikkamagluru, Madikeri and Mysuru from Mangaluru and surrounding areas. He also stressed on the need to spread Beary language education in the lines of Tulu and Kannada.
Basheer Baikampady, one of the participants in the discussion raised a question to Mohideen regarding the absence of proper beary publications. To which Mohideen said that Beary is a language that has always been spoken by people and not written for publications.
“There are ample writers who have written on various topics. The satire that can be found in Beary literature is something that we can compare to the satire found in English Literature. Such writings must be published and made sure that every Beary speaker in all households should read”, B A Mohideen said.
Another question raised was about the development of language to which Mohideen said, “Beary is a language that is developing step by step. It is going to take some time to touch a milestone.”
One of the lady writers whose literature revolves around education for girls, Mariam Ismail emphasized on educating girls. Mohideen seconded her statement and stood in favour of all girl children being educated. “Islam never preached about not educating a girl. It becomes her right to learn and know how to lead life. I strongly condemned the boards I read when I was a kid which was against providing education to girls”, Mohideen said.
Many a topics were discussed in relation to solution in making Beary language widely spoken. The other participants present at the session were Nisar Mohammad, Abdul Raheeman Kuthethoor, Moosabba P Beary, Sakeena Yahya.
