Mangalore: A district review meeting on issues pertaining to minorities and backward classes was held at DC’s office here on May 29. B R Yavagal, the chairman of the legislative committee on Backward Classes and welfare of Minorities headed the meeting.


Addressing the gathering he expressed his dissatisfaction over the provided facilities at the DC’s hall.
DC AB Ibrahim in response said that information regarding the committee’s arrival yesterday was received on Wednesday. The committee member’s companied that the meeting hall was congested, thus the DC suggested to shift the venue to ZP office after lunch. But the meeting was continued in the DC’s hall itself.
In the meeting issues related to hostel’s poor condition were discussed. Yavagal ordered KSRIS to complete the work of new hostel soon and also advised the construction of Puttur Morarji Desai Residential School which is still pending though it was started six years ago.
Presently 150 students are accommodated in a single rented room as the construction of the school was going, it was learnt.
DC AB Ibrahim said District administration is looking after issues related to hostels and he has sent a letter to the state government about the BCM hostels.
Regarding funds to construct hostels, Mankal Vaidya, MLA of Bhatkal asked A C Krishnamurthy, officer of BCM Hostel, explained why there is delay in sanctioning funds.
As the land sanctioned for the BCM hostel is presently mired in a court case it has been delayed said DC. Already Rs 13 lakh has been sanctioned for solar water heaters. A proposal for a separate Muslim BCM hostel for post-metric students was also put forth in the meeting.
On this occasion MLA Mohiuddin Bava, Sullia MLA S Angara and other members of the committee were present.
