Moodbidri : A prominent religious head of the Jain Community 108 Acharya Viveka Sagara Munimaharajaru has decided to go on a hunger strike from October 1 in case there is not much of a progress in the investigations into the Moodbidri Siddantha Darshana Mandir theft case. Swasti Shree Bhattaraka Panditacharyavarya Swamiji of Moodbidri Jain Mutt has said that he supported the decision of the seer.
In a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Jain Mutt seer said lakhs of Jains and even non-Jains were greatly concerned over the theft of antique and valuable idols from the Mandir two and a half months ago. The letter stated that the idols were being worshipped by Jains since the times of Mauryas, Vijayanagara kings and Hoysalas.
“ The Vivekasagara Muni is on a Chaturmasa in Chattisgarh and he has decided not to partake food until the antique idols are traced. Even I am following certain rules in partaking food. The Jain Samaj is concerned over the decision of Munimaharaja to go on a hunger strike. This may even spark non-violent means of agitations across the state. The government must consider this case seriously as the there is the hands of an international idol theft racket,” he said. The seer also demanded that the chief ministers of Karnataka and Chattisgarh should discuss the issue and ensure good co-operation between the police departments of the two states in probing the case and tracing the idols.
If that is not possible then the case must be entrusted to the CBI, the Jain Mutt seer has appealed in his letter to the Chief Minister.
