Bantwal : Though the model poll code of conduct has been enforced throughout the nation  soon after the announcement of elections, it seems  it has not affected various places in  Bantwal taluk including Bantwal TMC limits. The   failure of the authorities to remove the banners of political parties are ample proof to this.

One can spot the banners depicting BJP PM Candidate Narendra Modi, Congress Vice President  Rahul Gandhi, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and District Minister Ramanatha Rai at several places. Similarly  banners and hoardings put up by the government giving details of various government programmes can also been seen.

The Bantwal Taluk Tahsildar Malleswami had issued an order on March 4 itself directing  removal of all political banners across the  taluk and had  instructed the Panchayat Development officers and  TMC chief officers to follow the instructions. However,  so far none  have adhered to the order and submitted action taken report, the Tahsildar  informed.

On the other hand, there is information that the TMC officials and Panchayat officials have  shrugged off their responsibility stating that ensuring the implementation of  poll code of conduct was not their duty. There is a need for the DC to look into this issue.
