Bantwal : An incident wherein a Councilor of Bantwal TMC sat on a dharna right at the entrance of the TMC office  demanding solution to a  problem, was reported on November 25, Monday.

Devadas Shetty, Councilor representing Ward No. 4 attracted the attention of many by squatting on the floor at the entrance of the TMC office. His protest was to object the act of a person in transporting soil to a land owned by him through a temporary bridge unauthorisedly constructed across a storm water drain close by the bus stand at Kotramanagundi.

The grouse of Shetty was that the TMC officials had failed to initiate any action despite him drawing their attention towards the problem on several earlier occasions. Even a written complaint to the chief officer had been a futile exercise, he complained and as a last resort decided to sit on a dharna right at the entrance of the TMC office.

Several senior councilors including Govinda Prabhu, Bhasker Tailor, BJP local unit President G Ananda, General Secretary Ramdas, Vice President Purusha Salian, former TMC Chief Dinesh Bhandari, former president Suresh Kulal and others too accompanied Shetty in his protest.

The efforts made by TMC President Vasanthi Chandappa and Member Mohammad Nandarabettu to persuade Shetty to drop the agitation went in vain. The councilor who continued his dharna for around three hours finally  withdrew his agitation after the in-charge chief officer of the TMC Muttadi met him and gave a written assurance that steps would be taken to prevent encroachment by  private individuals into TMC owned lands and by raising a compound wall.
