Bangalore techie’s stolen car used to smuggle 50 kg of ganja

Kasargod: Around 50 kg of ganja that was being transported in a car was seized by the Kasargod police along with Rs 10,000 in cash on Wednesday April 30 at Kunil at Mogral Puttur. Officials of the Narcotics Cell who are investigating the case  have found that the car belonging to a Bangalore-based software engineer was stolen to smuggle the contraband.

The accused in the case Joy Joseph, a resident of Idukki was arrested while his accomplice Rojas has managed to escape.

Both the accused along with their gang had stolen the car  of  Satish Kumar alias Sujith, who works as a software engineer in a private firm in the Kalyani Tech Park near Maratahalli and resides at Subash Chandra Road, Vidyaranyapura in Bangalore.

It is said on April 12, accosted Sujith who slowed down his car near BEL market. The assailants who were in motorcycle first hit the car from behind, attacked Sujith and  fled with his Swift car. It is learnt they hit Sujith with beer bottles.

Police said Rojas who has managed to flee, is an accused in several other cases such as a rape case reported from Kannur district. Now, he has been booked in an attempt-to-murder case for assaulting Satish.

The victim Satish had informed the Gangammanagudi police, who in-turn contacted their Kasargod counterparts and got the pictures of the seized vehicle and the accused, which were subsequently confirmed by Satish.

The Kasargod police conducted the operation under the guidance of Narcotics Cell DySP Suresh Babu. Kasargod station sub inspector T Uttamdas, Sunil Abraham, K Srijith, K Jyotish, Mahendran and Kamalakshan were part of the operation.

Investigation has reportedly revealed that the gang members are habitual drug peddlers and used to go to Bangalore regularly to collect ganja from their contacts who get it from Odisha. The gang collects the drugs and distributes it to their customers in Kerala, sources said.
