Bajpe: The policemen have nabbed a youngster who attempted to throw acid on Kandavara gram panchayat president Vijaya Gopal Suvarna.

The youngster has been accused of making obscene mobile calls to Vijaya and also posing life threats, but Vijaya did not pay heed to his demands.  He has been calling several times daily demanding Rs 2 lac from Vijaya and threatened to kill her husband if she does not shell out the money.

Meanwhile, Vijaya informed Bajpe police station, who found out the accused was making calls from different coin booths in Mangalore city.  They advised her to ask him to come to a specific spot.

Accordingly, when Vijaya received a call from the accused, she asked him to come to Kandavar gram panchayat, while the policemen from Bajpe station laid a trap.  When the accused arrived at the spot and rushed to the cabin of Vijaya, the police were able to overpower him and snatch the acid bottle.
