Mangalore : Late Deputy Prime Minister and freedom fighter Babu Jagajeevan Ram was one of the towering personalities who strived for the upliftment of the backward classes, said A.B. Ibrahim. Deputy Commissioner.




He was speaking after inaugurating the Dr Jagajeevan Ram Jayanthi celebrations organised at the DC office auditorium on April 5, Saturday. The Deputy Commissioner said Dr Jagajeevan Ram had dedicated his entire life for the welfare of the downtrodden in the society after attaining higher education from Kolkata University. He became a member in the Nehru cabinet at a young age in 1966, the Deputy Commissioner said and recalled the yeoman contributions of Babu Jagajeevan Ram during his 38 year old service in various government departments.
Sadashiva Prabhu, Additional DC said the ideals of Babu Jagajeevan Ram and the path followed by him are an inspiration to everyone.
The participant dignitaries offered floral tributes to the portrait of Babu Jagajeevan Ram. Dr Prashanth, Assistant Commissioner was present among others.
