Udupi :Udupi Auto Rickshaw Drivers and Owners Association organised a protest demanding  additional auto fair of Rs 1 per Km,  in front of  DC office, Manipal on  Monday , Feb 10.

Demanding hike in rickshaw fare, more than 600 auto rickshaw drivers participated in the protest. They put forward the demand to increase the  auto fair up to Rs 24 as minimum fair and additional running charge per km should be Rs 16. On January 22nd, Road  Transport Authority  revised auto rickshaw fare and fixed it as Rs 15 per km.

Mahesh Takoor, Union President  said the price for fuel is increasing drastically day by day. Increasing Rs 1 per kilometer is genuine.

Karkala Auto Rickshaw Drivers and Owners Association, president Balakrishna shetty said that “If our demand is not fulfilled, 15,000  rickshaw drivers in the district will boycott the upcoming Lok sabha election”

Further they warned that a huge protest will be organized in the district, if the demand was not accepted before Feb 22.
