Mangalore : There is a proposal to set up a fully Automated Driving Test Track as also a Driving Training Institute for heavy vehicle drivers at Mudipu in the outskirts of Mangalore. The project is likely to kickstart within the next three month period.

In Karnataka, Bangalore already has such a track, while another similar facility is coming up at Shimoga. The Fully Automated Driving Test  Track will  be fitted with censors on either side  which will test the skills of the driver. The Driving Training Institute intends at training drivers in driving heavy vehicles considering the increasing heavy vehicles including oil tankers in the district.

Mangalore RTO is particularly keen in going ahead with this project. It was he himself who initiated the project in Shimoga while he served there as an RTO.

The new facility when completed is expected to relieve the RTO office in Mangalore of much of its burden.
