Mangalore:
There has been a  new twist to the ASI Srikala harassment case. Vidya Dinker, social activist has alleged that  high level Congress leaders were backing  ACP TR Jagannath who stands as an accused in the case.

Speaking to reporters here on September 16, Monday, Vidya said the  committee headed by ACP Kavitha, an officer junior to the accused ACP, has given a clean chit to the accused ACP without a thorough probe.

She said though Home Minister KJ George too had assured action, nothing was done. She also alleged that  the complainant ASI Srikala was being harassed by  lodging several cases against her. Even a Dalit constable has lodged a case of atrocity against her, she said.

She also demanded a district level committee headed by the DC to probe the case.

Members of Forum Against Atrocities on Women, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and some like minded organizations have demanded the suspension of TR Jagannath or  his transfer till the investigation is complete.

It may be recalled here that  ASI Srikala has recently lodged a private petition in the third JMFC court seeking justice in the case. The court has asked the Pandeshwar Women’s police station to file an FIR.

Meanwhile, organizations have also opened a Facebook page to seek support for ASI Srikala.
