Mangalore, Mar 5: Youth Social Service Charitable Trust (YSSCT) was established with an objective to work for the poor and the marginalized in the society. This Trust has worked sincerely to bring about a significant difference in the lives of destitute children.

Ten years ago, YSSC Trust setup ‘Ashraya’ – a shelter for the homeless and orphan girls (up to the age of 18). Nearly 30 to 40 children who are abandoned and deprived of basic necessities of life are admitted to ‘Ashraya’ every year.

These children are provided with a safe environment and adequate facilities to lead a normal life. A warden and a support staff are appointed at ‘Ashraya’ to offer constant emotional support and guidance to the inmates and to instill in them a sense of security and purpose in life.

To commemorate the decennial celebrations of ‘Ashraya’, ‘Manoranjan 2014’, was held at the Town Hall on Sunday, March 2.

A formal stage function was held on the occasion. Dr Shantaram Shetty, Chairman, Tejaswini Hospitals,  Lancy Mendonca, NRI businessman, Gerald Crasta, NRI businessman, Albert Pais, Proprietor, Pais Builders and Dr. Vidhyasagar of Tejaswini Hospital, were the chief guests. Lancelot Pinto, Corporator and the founder of Ashraya, was also present on the dais.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shetty rendered his best wishes to Pinto, his trust, and the decennial celebration of Ashraya. “A person who donates even a little would want it to be published. The highlight of the event was a musical extravaganza by well-known vocal and instrumental artistes led by Raj Gopal, comedy by Mimicry Gopi and dance performances by the well-known dance troupe of the city Ocean Kids. Also, compere VJ Hisrar, rocked the show.
