Beltangady:In an incident that has once again proved that Naxals are still active in the coastal region, a group of nearly 10 to 20 armed Naxals have  set  ablaze a car and a bike parked outside the residence of  Kutlur Gram Panchayat Member Ramachandra Bhat at Naravi near Belthangady in the  wee hours of November 9, Saturday.

It is learnt, the Naxals resorted to such act after the GP member refused to open the door  when the  Naxals knocked at his doors at around 2 am. Even the shed where the vehicles were parked was gutted in the fire.

Gram Panchayat Me member Ramachandra Bhat is also running an NGO  and has been working towards rehabilitating forest dwellers and encouraging them to come out of  the forest areas and accept the package offered by the government. This is learnt to have angered the Naxals who chose to target him.

Senior police officials including IGP Western Range Pratap Reddy and SP Shantanu Sinha have rushed to the spot. The ANF has also begun combing operations in Kutlur.
