Areca theft case: Prime accused behind bars

Moodbidri : The prime accused in the case of theft of arecanut worth Rs 90,000 and electronic goods worth Rs 17000 has been arrested by the Moodbidri Police on Sunday August 3.

The arrested person is Sukhesh Poojary (24), a painter by profession hailing from Marodi in Belthangady taluk. He was arrested from near Handelu Cross in Moodbidri. A flat TV, DVD player worth Rs 10,000 and a Discovery Bike have been seized from him.

The theft was reported on July 29, Tuesday. The arecanut belonging to farmer Vincent D’Mello was stocked in his brother’s house from where it was stolen. The theft had come to light when Vincent’s son Monish  had been  to the house to  check the stocked areca when he found the locks of the room  broken.

Apart from arecanut bags, even electronic goods kept in the showcase of the house were found stolen.

Earlier Dinesh Poojari (28) and Harish Poojari (26) were arrested in connection with the case. With Sukhesh’s arrest all three accused in the case are behind bars.

Moodbidri Inspector Anantha Padmanabha and other police personnel  of Crime Division namely Santosh, Vasu, Ramanna, Surendra Naik  and others were part of the  operation.
