Mangaluru: A day after Congress leader Veerappa Moily said that there is no need to give importance to former KPCC president Janardhan Poojary and former Karnataka chief minister SM Krishna’s statements, Poojary on Sunday February 14, said that Moily too is not a kid. Poojary questioned if Moily wants people to take him seriously, then why shouldn’t they give weightage to his statements.
At a press meet in Udupi yesterday, Dr Veerappa Moily had said that there was no need to give any importance to the opinions of aged leaders like Poojary and Krishna. “It is but normal for people to talk senseless as they get older. We are not going to take it seriously,” he had said.
In retaliation to this, Poojary today said: “I agree that both SM Krishna and I are aged. But is Moily 21? Is he a kid? He is 77-years-old. If he still wants the Congress party and the people to take him seriously, how could he say that the party and the people need not take Krishna and me seriously?,” adding that Moily would destroy the party if he continues to do so.
The base of the above debate forms Poojary’s press conference wherein he demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to auction his Rs 50 lakh watch, which he reportedly received as a “gift” from a friend and asked to give away the proceedings to the families of Siachen martyrs from Karnataka. On the other hand, SM Krishna had said that Siddaramaiah’s low-weight cabinet cannot bring development.
As TV channels have been telecasting that the CM has agreed to auction his watch and use the money towards noble causes, Poojary hailed him and told Moily that he has received his answer. He cautioned to reveal Moily’s character after the Zilla Panchayat election if he speaks any further about Poojary.
The veteran leader expressed confidence that the Congress will register a huge victory in the ZP/TP elections as according to him, people have realized that there is no Modi wave and the BJP has been making promises in the air.
HDK unfit to comment
It may be recalled that JD(S) State head HD Kumaraswamy had recently said that Siddaramaiah possesses another watch worth Rs 3 crore and he would reveal details in a week’s time. To this, Poojary said that he is unfit to comment. He said that Kumaraswamy’s illicit relationship with a lady from Kalladka is not a secret and that he need not comment on the character of Siddaramaiah.
