Mangalore: The apprentices of Mangalore Refineries and Petro Chemicals Ltd(MRPL) company are planning for the legal fight against the company regarding the injustice done to them, while recruiting the new engineers.

Speaking to the media, in the press meet held in the Hotel Woodlands Hall, the president of Noukarara Hitarakshana Vedike and MRPL Apprentice Graduates’ Engineers Unit, B S Chandru said that the  Mangalore Refineries and Petro Chemicals Ltd(MRPL) company has violated the law and supreme court’s order during the recruitment of trained apprentices in the company.

As per the order issued by the labour and employment ministry, govt. of India (Order no. DGET/50(2)/95 AD dated 15th march 1996  and as per the order issued by the supreme court on 12th January 1995 (Order No. AIR 995, SC-115) it has been clearly mentioned that, 50% of recruitment should be done on reservation to the apprentices.

But the MRPL has recruited about 70 graduated engineers from 2008 to June 2013 and out of them only 3 are the trained apprentices. This is the clear evidence to the violation of the orders of the court.  And the Labour dept. has remained silent in spite of the requests from the apprentices.

Hence the association will file, “contempt of the order of the court” case against the MRPL, and ministry of Labour and employment, govt. of India and I request the NGO’s and well-wishers to support us in our fight for the justice.

He also mentioned about the biased standards of the company in giving stipend to the apprentices of the different training batches.

Leaders of the association, Dharmendra, Ajit kumar K, Padmanabha Ullal and apprentices were present at the occasion.
