Mangaluru: The heavy rainfall in Dakshina Kannada district and rescue operation of the trapped individuals in the flood have unfolded many interesting stories, including that of a mother dog who showcased unconditional love for her puppies, on Saturday, August 10.

While people were busy relocating to safer pockets, a mother dog and six of her puppies remained gazing helplessly at Kadekar near Nethravathi bridge in Jeppinamogaru. Noticing this, Nithesh Suvarna, a resident of Jeppinamogaru approached Animal Care Trust Trustee Suma R Nayak over phone and informed about the stranded dog and its puppies. Nithesh also informed that if the stranded mother dog and its puppies are not rescued within 15 minutes, they would be drowned.

Immediately, Suma  Nayak alerted her team members who rushed to the spot. With no time to waste, Animal Care Trust staff Ravi, Prasad and its volunteers Aneesha Sameer and Shamith Kumar went to Jeppinamogaru. They were ferried to the spot and the team successfully rescued the mother dog and her puppies, all within 15 minutes.

Mother dog wanted its puppies to be safe!

What was heart touching in this whole episode was the love that the mother dog had for her puppies. While many dogs had swam across, this mother remained with her puppies, wanting them to be safe. Only after her puppies were rescued,  she plunged into the boat,  placing her little ones before her own life.
