Mangalore : I feel ashamed to introduce myself as a person from Karnataka whenever I visit some other state or travel abroad,” exclaimed Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily.
Addressing a press meet held here, Moily said the BJP government in Karnataka has made every citizen of the state hang his head in shame by indulging in rampant corruption and innumerous scandals. “Feeling ashamed to introduce myself as a Karnataka man, I only prefer to introduce myself as a union minister,” Moily added.
Continuing his tirade against the state government, Moily was also critical of the government decision to set up 32 deemed universities. Many colleges which lack basic infrastructural facilities too are included in the list, he alleged and said bribery has played a major role in granting permit.
Most of the state ministers are involved in corruption cases while some have even been to the prison. Even the Supreme court has censured the state for the Rs 50,000 crore worth mining scam, he said adding history has never seen such a shameless government.
Commenting on the power crisis in the state, Moily said the government has also failed in handling the power generation and supply scenario. The state is facing an unprecedented power crisis, he said and added the government was also facing a huge debt burden.
On the allegations hurled at Mangalore South Congress candidate JR Lobo by BJP candidate Yogish Bhat, Moily said the allegations were baseless and even pointed out how Yogish Bhat had taken the initiative in demolishing a portion of the Ladygoschen building believing the assurance of some one. Finally, I had to intervene to ensure that the construction works were taken up,” Moily said.
Ibrahim Kodijal, in-charge District Congress President, JR Lobo, party candidate, former mayor K Ashraf, PV Mohan, Shashidhar Hegde, TK Sudhir, Tejomaya and others were present.
