Alva’s weight lifting champs make Kannadigas proud

Moodbidri: Two students from Alva College at Moodbidri have made all the Kannadigas proud. Shodhana and Prajna have represented the State and won several medals for weightlifting championship, recently.

Shodhana has won bronze medal representing Karnataka at the national level senior weightlifting held in Goa. She is the daughter of Darnappa Poojary and Yashoda, a residents of Nadubail in Kaniyur village in Puttur taluk.

She is a final year commerce student of Alvas College Moodbidri. She has completed her primary education in a Government high school at Charvaka. She is also a Kabaddi player. Padmanabha physical education teacher recognizing Shodhana’s talent helped her get admission in Alvas College for higher studies.

She completed her high school and pre-university studies under free education programme.

She won gold medal in State level weight lifting championship held in Brahmavar in September. She also won gold medal in State championship organized on the occasion of Mysore Dasara in October.

In PUC she represented Karnataka twice in the national level being the team leader of Alvas Kabaddi team. She won several district and State awards in 53kg weight lifting championships. And now, Shodhana has made her college and all the Kannadigas proud by winning third place at national level.

Another student from Alvas, Prajna won gold medal in state level weight lifting championship held in the month of September in Brahmavar. She also won silver medal in state weight lifting championship organized on the occasion of Mysore Dasara. She completed her primary education in a governmental primary school at Chandalike in Vittal taluk. She finished her High school and PU studies in Vittal pre-university college. After getting seat under Sports quota, she is pursuing her degree in arts at Alvas College.

Shodhana and Prajna are trained by Pramod Kumar Shetty Nelyady, a national weight lifting trainer.

They will be representing Karnataka in the upcoming National Senior weight lifting championship Udaypur in Rajasthan in the month of December.
