Mangaluru: When the entire nation is disturbed with the suicide of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit research scholar of Hyderabad University, a Dalit Principal of a private College in Madikeri ended life on Thursday January 21, allegedly due to caste discrimination by the ‘upper class’ college management.

The deceased is Sudesh, belonging to Mugera community under Scheduled Caste category.

As per Sudesh’s wife and brother in-law, Sudesh had joined a private college in Madikeri few years ago. He was evidently depressed and had at several instance complained of harassment from the President and other members of the college management. He had stated that he was being ill-treated due to his caste.

As per his wife, on January 10, she had managed to convince Sudesh to stick on with the same job and had sent him to the College. However, it was later learnt that he did not report to duty on that day.

He had instead traveled to Bejai and rented a room at Keerthi Lodge.

It is said that two days before ending life, he had sent an SMS to his wife seeking her forgiveness as he had decided to end life.

His relatives have sought stringent action against the school management.
