Mangaluru: The AJ Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre celebrated ‘Graduation Day’ on February 8.

A total of 167 students, 27 Post Graduates and 140 Undergraduates-MBBS graduated on this day.

Dr C N Manjunath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences & Research, Bengaluru, was the chief guest. Prashanth Shetty, Vice President of Laxmi Memorial Educational Trust presided over the programme.

Former Dean Dr Ramesh Pai conveyed the oath to the 167 graduates.

Addressing the gathering, Dr C N Manjunath called upon the young graduates to continue their hard work, dedication, commitment and sincerity to the profession. He told them the importance of dedicating themselves to patient care and the importance of this profession to mankind. He lauded the efforts of Dr AJ Shetty and Prashanth Shetty in providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities for the betterment of patient care. He urged the young doctors to give importance to physical examination. He stressed on the importance of determination, commitment, concentration, and hard work to be successful in the profession. “Cultivate a good attitude, morals, ethical values and mannerisms while treating patients. Patience, Silence and Smile are the virtues of a good doctor,” stressed Dr C N Manjunath.

Prashanth Shetty delivered presidential address on behalf of Dr AJ Shetty. He stressed that at AJIMS & RC, we place great importance on helping the students to grow into thoughtful, responsible adults with a strong sense of commitment in the direction of nurturing better professionals in the field of Medicine. Parity of prospect is fundamental is the ethos of Institutions under LMET. The goal is to train every aspiring graduate to be competent and ethically sound healthcare specialist. He informed the gathering about the inclusion of Robotic facility and state of the art simulation lab in the institution. He commended the efforts of faculty members in shaping future doctors and encouraging graduates to achieve the highest academic standards.

The President’s Gold Medal, instituted by founder Dr A J Shetty was conferred to the toppers of the batch and the best outgoing students of the graduating batch by Vice President Prashanth Shetty and Dr Prashanth Marla.

President’s Gold Medal for Overall 1st topper and best outgoing student of the year is Dr Abhay Keshav Bhat K; President’s Gold Medal for Overall 2nd topper is Dr Meghana Rao; President’s Gold Medal for Overall 3rd topper is Dr Sidharth N Shenoy Bhamy. The gold medal for general medicine was awarded to Dr Meghana Rao. The gold medal for general surgery was awarded to Dr Adithi. The endowment cash award for Pharmacology was received by Dr Anisha.

Rank holders in RGUHS Postgraduates and Undergraduates were honoured by legendary cardiologist Dr C N Manjunath. Dr Gautham N (MD-Forensic Medicine & Toxicology) and Dr Swathi Sanjee (MD-Paediatrics) secured 1st Rank in the State that too setting record marks in the history of RGUHS. Sports achievers were felicitated by Prashanth Shetty and Dr Ramesh Pai.

Earlier, the function commenced with the ‘Graduation March’ by way of a traditional procession to the podium.

Prof. Dr Francis N P Monteiro presented the Annual Report on behalf of the Dean. He highlighted numerous improvements in infrastructures; achievements of students and staff in academic, extracurricular and sports activities. He lighted the vision of President Dr AJ Shetty and Vice President Prashanth Shetty in the direction of achieving academic excellence.

Prof. Dr Francis N P Monteiro, Associate Dean and H.O.D. of Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, AJIMS & RC, welcomed the gathering. Dr BV Manjunath, HOD of Cardiology at AJIMS & RC, introduced the chief guest. Dr Rukma Bhandary of the Department of ENT, and Dr Prathima Jaydev of the Department of Biochemistry compered the event. Dr Mohandas Rai, Associate Dean, AJIMS, proposed the vote of thanks.
