Belthangady: Close on heels of District Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase paying a visit to a remote village of Atrinje in Sulkere GP limits in Belthangady, where five Koraga families have been living in pathetic state, Deputy Commissioner Jagadish, on Friday visited them in person and said that all measures would be taken to provide better living conditions to them.
It may be recalled that recently, the SP headed to the village which has no road connectivity. During a SC/ST grievances meet, one of the Dalit leaders had spoken about the dire conditions under which Koraga families were living in the village. Following this, the SP headed to the village straight away and crossing a foot bridge, the SP had met the residents who were living under tarpaulin roofs.
However, on Friday, the DC too met and told the families that there was no problem if they wished to live on the land that they have been living in, but the government was determined to allocate separate land for them.
The DC assured the families that when the government allots land for them, if they feel that they can live comfortable there, they can relocated.
“The government will allocate 4000 sqft land for five families living here. Title deeds for the land, house construction, other infra structure facilities will all be provided to you,” said the DC.
However, Harish and Annu, two residents of the village urged the DC to make sure that they are provided with land adequate enough to carry on agriculture activities.
Responding to this, the DC said that land can be allotted for living, but land for agriculture cannot be provided. He said that they can continue living on the land that they are living in, but providing basic infra structure in far-flung area like Atrinje could be difficult.
However, the DC said that if the residents wish, government can provided skill development training so that the residents could make a living out of such skills.
The move of the Dc has now brought hope in the lives of five Koraga families of Atrinje.
