Mangaluru: Sandalwood artiste and KPCC Secretary Bhavana on February 3 expressed her desire to contest from Chitradurga Constituency in the forthcoming assembly elections in Karnataka, if the party provides the ticket to her.

Addressing a press meet at district Congress Bhavan in the city on February 3, she also confirmed that senior Congress leaders like MLC Raghu Achar, former MLA Basavaraj and Hanumoli Shanmugappa are also the aspirants for the ticket from Chitradurga.

On Dakshina Kannada district being in news for wrong reasons, Bhavana said, “It is pretty unfortunate that the educated and talented district has been in news for wrong reasons like violence, murder and conflicts. Despite being an educated district why are we being so immature?”, she lamented.

She questioned as to why the people in the district who are known to be too vocal remained mute spectators to the union government’s decision like demonetisation which had affected the country on the whole.

She also claimed that she was basically from South Canara, where her forefathers lived in Kundapur.

When it was questioned why she wanted to contest from Chitradurga instead of Bengaluru city, Bhavana said that Chitradurga was her father’s native and presently she resided there. “Moreover Chitradurga is deprived of basic civic facilities and education is too far away from the people”, she added.

Congress District President Harish Kumar said that the district Congress condemned the act of defacing Indira Gandhi’s portrait by a few miscreants, at the under construction Indira Canteen building at Suratkal. “The people who committed it are anti-poor”, he added.
