According to DDPU CD Jayanna, two acid attack survivors participated in the II PUC-2 exams, commencing on Monday. One of the survivors, currently hospitalized, did not appear for the exams due to recent surgery but is anticipated to take the II PU-3 exams at a later date, having previously appeared for the CET exams.

Background of the Incident

The incident stems from an attack on three students from a government PU college in Kadaba, Dakshina Kannada, on March 4. Abin Sibi, a 23-year-old MBA student from Malappuram in Kerala, was arrested by the police. Initial investigations suggest that the attack occurred after the perpetrator’s advances were rebuffed by one of the victims. The assailant, purportedly dressed in a school uniform, hurled acid at the victim during exam preparations, causing burn injuries to her and two others.

Medical Update and Arrangements

Dr. Dinesh Kadam, head of the plastic surgery department at AJ Hospital & Research Centre, disclosed that the victim underwent surgery last week, including skin grafting with the application of a dermal regeneration template called Integra for enhanced skin coverage. The victim is expected to remain hospitalized for another ten days but is reported to be recovering well.

Examination Absences

Out of 201 students registered for the II PU-2 exams in Dakshina Kannada district, 92 were absent on the first day of the examination. This highlights the lingering impact of the unfortunate incident and underscores the importance of supporting affected students during their recovery and educational pursuits.
