Accused nabbed after 39-long-years of absconding in attempt to murder case

Mangaluru: Avil D’Souza (56), who was accused in the case of attempt to murder about 39 years ago has been now arrested by the Mangaluru City Police.

Avil was involved in an attempt to murder case at the age of 17.

According to the police sources Avil was involved in the illegal movement of liquor from Adamkudru of Jeppinamogaru in 1980, based on which a person named Ganesh Shetty had filed a complaint in the Mangaluru Rural Police Station.

Avil had attempted to murder Ganesh at that point in time.

When the police had nabbed him and produced before the court, he had escaped and had gone abroad.

Recently, he had returned to India and had built a house at Ullal and was residing there.

The anti-rowdy squad was busy investigating the pending cases, in which they found an old pertaining file connected to Avil D’Souza.

With confirmed information of he being in the city, a team under the leadership of Mangaluru South assistant commissioner was formed, which was successful in nabbing Avil from his residence at Ullal.

The operation was led under the guidance of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil, DCP Hanumantharaya and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth.
