
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party in its three-hour parliamentary board meeting regarding the Lok Sabha election, has decided to place Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Varanasi constituency of Uttar Pradesh yet again, here on Saturday, March 9.
In the meeting in which PM Modi, BJP National President Amit Shah, Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda and other leaders participated, the party came to a decision that PM Modi would contest from Varanasi and also provide tickets to the candidates who are above 75 years of age and who are capable of winning.
However, it has made clear that it will be the prerogative of veteran party leaders like Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi if they would like to contest or not, as L K Advani is 91 and Joshi is 85.
Veteran leader Kalraj Mishra aged 77 too is in the list of potential candidates.
The party sources have said that this time, the BJP will be in alliance with 29 regional parties.
It had recently allied with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and has continued its alliance with Shiv Sena, Lok Jan Shakti of Maharashtra and Janata Dal (United) of Bihar.
Meanwhile, the party is yet to disclose on whether PM Modi will be contesting from dual constituencies for 2019 Lok Sabha election, as in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, he contested from Vadodara constituency of Gujarat and Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh.
The party has also decided to give tickets to celebrities and sports stars.
