Acclaimed Yakshagana artiste Sheenappa Bhandary no more

Puttur : Acclaimed Yakshagana artiste Sheenappa Bhandary (88) breathed his last at a private hospital here on June 24, Monday. He was ailing since some time. Bhandary is survived by his wife, two daughters and five sons including Sridhar Bhandary who is a well-known Yakshagana artiste.

Sheenappa Bhandary who dropped out of school after fifth standard,  learnt the art of Yakshagana with great keenness and emerged as a talented artiste. He was associated with the Dharmasthala, Kadri and Koodlu Yakshagana troupes as well as the Subrahmanya  Yakshagana Mela. He was popular for his effective portrayal of mythological characters like Kamsa and Hiranyakashipu.

Late Bhandary had  also won several coveted awards including a state level award for his distinguished contribution to the art.
