Sullia: The police arrested Jinnappa Parava, an undertrial prisoner who had managed to escape from the Mangaluru central prison here in Sullia on March 14.

Parava (43), a resident of Bolkal House in Gardady village of Beltangady taluk, was serving prison time since his arrest in 2015 in a rape case. He was also facing several other cases including theft. On March 10, Parava who was given the task of assisting the cooks had somehow managed to escape by jumping the prison wall despite the high security at the jail.

Belagavi DIG, T P Shesha had paid a visit to the prison following the incident and had reprimanded the jail personnel. A case was registered in Barke police station in connection with the jail break.

The Sullia police led by inspector Sathish Kumar was finally successful in arresting the absconding Parava after nearly three days of manhunt.

He has been handed over to Barke police for further investigation.
