Amreli: At a time when we hear about animals being subjected to barbarism and heinous acts of animal cruelty in India, here is a heart-warming incident from Gujarat. In a spectacular display of humanity, locals of Amreli village helped a lioness which accidentally fell into a dry well by lowering a khat (cot) in the well.

Animals have been straying into areas populated by people since their habitat has been destroyed in the name of development. The latest incident reported from Amreli is one such examples where a lioness accidentally fell into a 50ft dry well.

The locals immediately rushed to help the animal and lowered a khat (cot) in the well to get the lioness out. The big cat was not hurt in the rescue operation despite alarm in the vicinity. The incident of getting lioness out of the well was captured on camera.

The big cat was safely released in the woods with the help police officials and the locals.
