Mangaluru: Amidst chairing a review meeting to evaluate the work done in the western range including Mangaluru, DG and IG, Karnataka, Om Prakash, spent a brief moment with the press and said a committee has been formed to formulate a scheme on the lines of the Arogya Bhagya Scheme, to benefit retired police personnel.
He was addressing press persons at the office of Mangalore Police Commissioner after launching an app and a dedicated website for Mangaluru police department.
Recently retired police personnel had staged a protest demonstration in Mangaluru when Mangaluru police department observed police Flag Day. Responding to the question of a reporter, Om Prakash, expressed that the available fund would be insufficient for reimbursement, if retired police personnel are covered under the Arogya Bhagya scheme.
He informed the scribes who attended the interaction that “the department has constituted a committee headed by ADGP (Grievances) to go into the details of the scheme to introduce similar one to address the current grievances. Responding to the other demands of the retirees, including the demand to set up canteens for retired personnel, Prakash said that the government had been examining options to resolve the issue.
He said home department has received proposal to establish three police stations in Dakshina Kannada. Traffic south, police station at Kaikamba and at Jeepu Morgan’s gate are three proposed stations, informed Mangaluru Police Commissioner Murugan. Om Prakash said the department has been developing analytic tools to realize improved monitoring of forums coming under the umbrella of internet.
Application and Website
The new police app will be available in Google play store in the evening hours but is immediately available on the website. The user friendly application could be used by citizens to report crime incidents to the police. The website gives case information and guides citizens on how to go about to procure license for handguns and guns apart from seeking permission to install sound devices.
The citizens are expected to make use of the app. The users after downloading the application can report crime and accident incidents to any one among the DCP crime, DCP law and order, police control room and Commissioner. The citizens could send photos along with the the report. The app does not provide facility to file online complaints.
