Mangalore : The 98th birth anniversary of former chief minister late Devaraj Urs was celebrated in Mangalore on August 20, Tuesday under the joint aegis of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, District Administration and Backward Classes Department.












Inaugurating the programme, District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Forest and Ecology Ramanatha Rai recalled the yeoman contributions of the late chief minister towards the upliftment of the backward classes and also in helping farmers lead a dignified life through the implementation of Land Reforms Act.
The function was presided over by ZP Vice President Rithesh Shetty. Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni and others were present.
Students belonging to the backward classes who have excelled in academics and sports were felicitated on the occasion. A total of 21 meritorious engineering students belonging to backward classes and minority community were provided laptops at the function.
