6 tipper thieves trapped, thanks to GPS

Moodbidri : Six persons have been arrested by the Moodbidri Police on the charges of stealing a tipper from Mastikatte. The GPS installed in the tipper helped the police easily trace it.

The arrested six are Ummar Farooq(37) of Karnad, Mohammad Javed (25) of Katipalla, Abdul Khader Janveer(37),  Munna alias Abdul Khader (19) of Jokatte and Pachu alias Prasad (21) of Savanoor.

The tipper owned by Suresh Mijar,  a member of Tenkamijar GP was stolen on August 18 night while it was parked on the roadside at Mastikatte. The local police who located the tipper at Hirisave near Hassan, thanks to the GPS, informed the police there and seized the tipper and arrested the accused.

It is learnt, they were taking it to Bangalore to sell it to a scrap merchant. Police have also learnt that the six were involved in theft of six lorries from various places in the district in the past. They had also sold its spare parts to scrap merchants.

Two of the  arrested Munna and Mohammad Javed have been remanded to judicial custody. The other four have been taken to police custody for further interrogation.
