Udupi: A press meet was organized at DC office, under the leadership of Meera Saxena the members of State human rights panel on Friday January 17.

Addressing to the media personnel Meera Saxena said, “After visiting the government hostels in the district such as, SC/ST pre-metric and post-metric hostel, Ashrama School and BMC on Thursday night it has been seen that there is no proper maintenance for the SC/ ST students.”
“The concern is that there is no tutor for English, Mathematics and Science whereas the BMC students have also complained about tastelessness of food”, she added.
Adding to the details Saxena said that most of the complaints are related to property dispute but there are also issues such as atrocities on women, air pollution, water pollution, street lights accidents, etc, she requested the officials to look into the related matters.
Saxena also informed that the Inspection conducted by State Human right commission has listed 5281 cases of human rights violation in 2013, 603 registered which brings up a total of 5884 cases. In all, 3,364 cases were disposed.
In Udupi district, 791 cases are lodged 2007 and 2013, out of which 450 had been resolved and 341 were pending. In the year 2013, 146 registered wherein 106 are pending, she added.
