Mangaluru: As many as 58 candidates are in the fray for the Karnataka Assembly elections to be held on May 12 from the eight constituencies in Dakshina Kannada district.
Addressing a press meet at his office on April 27, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Sethil said, “On the day of nomination, the election commission had received 102 nominations from Dakshina Kannada district, out of which 92 were accepted and 10 rejected. Only 66 nominations were found to be valid and out of these eight candidates have withdrawn their candidature. Hence, the total number of contestants for assembly polls from the district is 58.”
“In all, six candidates from Belthangady constituency, seven from Moodbidri constituency, seven from Mangaluru North constituency, 11 from Mangaluru South constituency, five from Mangaluru constituency, five from Bantwal constituency, 11 from Puttur constituency and six from Sullia constituency will be in the fray for the elections”, DC added.
Deputy commissioner also informed that the election commission had already shifted EVMs to the strong rooms of each constituency in the district. The Commission has already completed second round of training for the personnel involved with the elections.
He also informed that the election commission had confiscated Rs 11 Lakh in cash that was transported without documents, 23.428 liters of liquor and 6.85 kilograms of narcotic drugs.
