
Bengaluru: The Election Commission (EC) officials and police in a joint operation seized gold jewellery weighing 58 kgs being transported in a courier company vehicle during a routine check-up at the Balepura check-post under Devanahalli assembly segment on April 27, presumably meant to influence voters across the State.
Election Commission officials and police have been carrying out routine check-ups by setting up additional check points in the state after the model code of conduct came into force in the state.
Officials intercepted the Blue Dart courier cargo vehicle near Balepura check post and seized the jewellery being transported without valid documents. The jewellery manufactured by Tanishq (a Tata group company) was on its way towards Hosur in Tamil Nadu, when they stopped the Bolero vehiclen near Devanahalli.
Doddaballpur Deputy Superitendent of Police (DySP) Mohan Kumar, Vijayapura Circle Inspector of Police (CI) Manjunath, Channarayapatna Sub-Inspector (SI) Anand, election officials C N Manjunatha, Tahsildar Rajanna visited the spot and inspected the items seized before handing them over to the police.
