4 dead, 6 injured in auto-tempo collision

Beltangady: A macabre road accident involving a mini passenger tempo and an autorickshaw near Laila bridge here on October 20, Sunday, left four persons including a child dead and six others with serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses said the Ape Autorickshaw tried to overtake a lorry and in the process  hit against the tempo.All those killed were travelling in the autorickshaw. The deceased are Hassainar (40), Mohammed Irfan (2), Zainabi (30) and Nasir (13). If two of them died on the spot, two others passed away in the hospital.

The injured have been identified as  Nafisa (55), Zohra (40), Mariamma (35), Dilshad (12) and Sharief (24), the autorickshaw driver. The tempo driver Chethan was lucky enough and escaped with minor injuries. All the injured hailed from Mundur and were on way home after attending a function at Kajoor.

The mini tempo was carrying pilgrims from Chikmagalur who  were  heading towards Dharmasthala after visiting Kateel, Udupi, Kollur and other pilgrim places.

Both the tempo and the autorickshaw were badly mangled in the mishap which disrupted traffic for  over an hour.
Belthangady police have registered a case.
