Mangaluru: A major train mishap involving the Ernakulam-Hazzrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express at Panjirel between Mangaluru Junction and Thokur (Surathkal) station on Wednesday morning was averted by a youth on a Wednesday.

Moses, an elderly man, who was crossing the railway track to reach his property on the other side at 7:45 am, noticed a broken railway track. He informed his neighbor Harshith. The 26-year-old youth, then rushed to the spot, went back to home, brought a red r-shirt and rushed towards Mangaluru Junction on the track. He waved the t-shirt when he noticed an oncoming train. The loco pilot stopped the train.
The authorities were informed and the railway staff repaired the broken track.
The train was held up for about 30 minutes according to sources.
