Udupi: The district police on Friday March 14, have arrested a 16-year-old youth in connection with the alleged murder of 5-year-old Naveen who went missing mysteriously and was later found dead. The boy was reported missing since February 23 evening and his skeletal remains were found at Shirva, Pamboor on March 9.

The arrested has been identified as Vijay alias Argam, a resident of Pamboor. He hails from Tamil Nadu. The accused was arrested in an effort made by Shirva Police who then informed the Udupi police and arrested Vijay at Pamboor under Section 377.
It is learnt that on the fateful day Vijay had sexually abused Naveen after taking him to a near-by toilet, luring him with a chocolate. Later, he threatened Naveen not to disclose it to his parents.
However, following fear that Naveen might reveal the truth, Vijay murdered him and escaped from the scene.
During the investigation more than 50 members of the colony were questioned after which the police received few leads and arrested Vijay.
It has been revealed that earlier the accused had made similar attempts with other children, because of which he was thrashed by the local residents however he had managed to escape Tamil Nadu.
Annamalai (ASP), Sunil Nayak of Kaup police station and Ashok of Shirva police station had been investigating the case.
