‘Star Status’ Awarded to St. Aloysius College

Mangaluru: One of the city’s autonomous colleges, St. Aloysius College has been awarded the ‘Star Status’ for having a state-of-the-art science block. The already existing ‘Star College’ scheme which was given to St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) five years back has been upgraded to ‘Star Status’ by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of India.

Only Colleges with outstanding progress in science education are conferred with such status in promoting basic science education. According to the communication received from the Department, it is mentioned that the committee appreciated the excellent progress made by the college.

Under the ‘Star Status’ scheme, five science departments of the college will receive Rs. 19 lakh each for the next three years as grants for development and recurring expenditure. St. Aloysius is one among the 17 colleges in India and two in Karnataka to get this status.
