‘Beware of calls from strangers offering quick profits in business deals’

Mangaluru: In a joint operation by Mangaluru police, Bharatpur police from Rajasthan and Mathura police from Uttar Pradesh, a person named Richard Marian Nazareth was successfully rescued from abductors, said Commissioner of Police, Chandrasekar on Wednesday, August 3.

Addressing a press meet, Chandrasekar said that one should be very cautious of reacting to business calls coming from strangers offering undesirable profits.

Richard rescued in joint operation

Arun D’Souza, a person who deals with generators at Bejai received a call from Bharatpur offering a generator at an unbelievably low price. Arun sent Richard to Bharatpur who reached there on July 29 and stayed in a lodge. He was abducted the next morning on July 30. The abductors called up Arun and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh to release Richard.

Arun approached Mangaluru police. The police formed a team headed by ASI Raju. IGP Alop Vasisth and Mathura IGP Durgacharan Mishra to were roped in the joint operation.

Bharatpur SSP Kailash Krishnoy, Mathura SSP Bablu Kumar and Mangaluru ASI Raju with their personnel raided many gangs in Bharatpur and few other known places. Richard was finally located at Bastan on the borders of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Ijaz and two others from Mubarak gang were arrested.

Chandrasekhar informed that had abandoned Richard at a place called Govardhan and escaped after realizing that the police were closing on them.

Ullal ASI Vijayaraj, Kankanady police station head constable Mohan, Prakash Pinto and Pavanraj were a part of the operation. It came to be known, after Richard narrated that he was shifted to many places before he was abandoned. A 12-member gang was involved and six of them always guarded him. Richard is yet to come to city with the police team from Mangaluru, since his presence was required to indentify the abductors who were likely to be nabbed any time, said Chandrasekhar.

He further said that it was time for Mangaluru city police to work out a system to contain crime by way of crackdown on criminals. Upgrading the technology to stop or prevent such crimes from happening was being done, he said.

Police personnel receive training from experts

Chandrasekhar said that the city police personnel in the commissionerate were trained by the vigilance department of Axis Bank who had the expertise of how white collared crimes and frauds are committed and ways to tackle or prevent them. He said that this was with regard to net banking frauds including credit cards.

153 criminals’ names and other details released on updated COP website

Chandrasekhar informed that a list of most wanted 153 criminals from Mangaluru has been uploaded in the newly updated website of Mangaluru Police Commissionerate which was designed by Diya systems.

Some of the criminals are Nikhil Prakash Shetty, Ravi Poojary, Kali Yogish, Vicky Shetty, Vishwanath Koraga Shetty, Rashid Malbari and Chang wan Li from South Korea against whom red corner notices have been issued. Lookout notices have been issued against Sijauddin, Tajuddin, Akbar, Umar Farooq, and Imran.

Chandrasekhar also stated that those who want to interact, complain or give information, can do so and their name will be kept confidential. He also said that police website, Facebook account and Twitter handle of the commissionerate have become popular.
