Kasargod: After it was confirmed that fake voting took place in Kasargod, the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday, ordered the re-polling in four booths of the parliamentary constituency. The date of the re-polls has been fixed for May 19, the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Campaigning in these areas is allowed till Friday at 5 PM.

Re-polling was ordered at booth no. 19,69,70 in the Kallyassery Assembly constituency and booth No 48 in the Thrikkarippur Assembly constituency by Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena.

It can be recalled that CPIM workers were arrested for casting fake votes at these booths. In the Thikkaripur area, workers from the Indian Union Muslim League were found to be guilty of casting fake votes.

Congress leaders had lodged complaints under sections 171 C, D and F for interference in the election process and impersonation, after which police registered cases against four persons.

The case was investigated by Kasargod and Kannur returning officers, who submitted reports to the EC.

The Congress had also filed a complaint about bogus voting in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency, which is currently pending before the electoral body. The complainants have alleged that around 200 bogus votes were polled at various booths.

In the CEO Dharmadom Assembly constituency, which is represented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and in the Taliparambu Assembly constituency, CEO Meena revealed that nine persons cast fake votes 12 times.
