New Delhi: In the last few days, a lot has been said about the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi and his assassin, Nathuram Godse.

Recently, actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan sparked a controversy when he termed Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as independent India’s first Hindu terrorist.

In response to his remarks, the BJP’s candidate from Bhopal Pragya Thakur, added fuel to the political fire by claiming that Godse was a ‘patriot and will remain one’. Following her remarks, the BJP distanced itself from her comment and asked her to apologise, which she promptly did.

“The BJP does not agree with what Pragya Thakur said. It believes in Gandhian socialism and the Prime Minister himself has great faith in the Gandhian philosophy. We consider Gandhiji as a great man and the father of the nation,” said BJP spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal.

Anand Mahindra Chimes in, says some things must remain sacred

While political heavyweights continue to fight on both sides of the line on this issue, prominent personalities not connected to the political circles are also voicing out their opinions on the issue on social media. In one such case, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra took to Twitter to express his sentiment on how some things must remain outside the domain of debate and speculation. “For 75 yrs, India’s been the land of the Mahatma; a beacon when the world lost its morality. We used to be pitied for being poor but we were always rich since Bapu inspired billions globally. Some things must remain sacred. Or we become the Taliban, destroying statues that sustain us,” he said in his tweet on Thursday evening.
