Gokarna: In a tragic incident, two brothers drowned in the sea at Kudle beach in Gokarna on Saturday evening, September 17.

While one brother drowned, another one pulled out of the sea by a localite failed to recover on the way to hospital and eventually breathed his last.

Abhinav Khanduja (25) and his younger brother Gokul Khanduja (23), both from Haryana are the deceased. The duo had been to Kudle beach along with their friends on Saturday evening. Though Gokul disappeared in the rough sea waves, his brother Abhinav was pulled out by local hotel owner Nagesh Gowda who rushed to his rescue without any life support equipment. However, Abhinav died in the ambulance on the way to hospital.

Shocked by the turn of events, one of their relatives accompanying the brothers collapsed soon after the tragedy.

Heart rending scenes were witnessed at the site of the tragedy where friends of deceased Abhinav were seen pleading the authorities to rescue him after he breathed his last. Police confirmed on Sunday, September 18 that the body of younger brother too has been retrieved.

Gokarna police led by police Sub-Inspector M Govinda registered a case and are investigating further.
