Karwar: First wooden Canopy walk of the country will be inaugurated on February 18 (today) at Kuveshi, just 65 km away from Dandeli, near Castle Rock of Uttara Kannada, around 90 km far from Belagavi.
Bharath and Aleem of Mysuru went to Malaysia which is known for canopy walk and conducted a study on it. Later, in one and half years they constructed India’s first Canopy walk using the local materials itself.
Canopy walk has been constructed in association with State Tourism Department, Forest Department, and Kali Tiger Reservoir. Canopy walk will be inaugurated by the Forest Minister Ramanath Rai and District-in-Charge Minister R V Deshpande, Union Minister Ananthkumar Hegade, Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge will be present.
Canopy walk is a walk bridge, where strong wooden pieces of the same height are joined and an aluminum base is provided for the steadiness. Later, just like a hanging bridge, path is designed in it. Savouring the beauty of forest walking through this bridge is called as Canopy walk.
The Canopy walk constructed in Kuveshi is around 240 meters long and it is at a height of 30 feet. This is the only Canopy in the country made up of wooden pieces. According to the officials, the total project cost was Rs. 84 lakh.
During the rainy season, it will be protected using plastic sheets and again from October it will be open for the tourists.
