Bengaluru: The Central government has given the green signal to develop the suburban railway corridor between Bengaluru and Mysuru, said Union minister for urban development Venkaiah Naidu.

He was speaking on the occasion of stone laying function of various projects at the Railway Institute in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The construction of required infrastructural work of suburban corridor will begin soon. It is expected to boost the economical activities of both the cities once the suburban work is completed, Naidu said.

The Central government under PM Modi has given due attention to the State’s overall development and the State government is expected to participate more actively in such projects, he added.

The double track laying project between Bengaluru and Hubballi is expected to be completed by 2020, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, former PM HD Devegowda alleged that the track laying work between Hassan and Bengaluru is progressing at a snail’s pace. The project started almost 20 years ago and is yet to see its completion. This shows the Central government’s attitude towards the State.

Senior politicians and other railway officials were present in the programme.
