Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a flower vendor was killed on the spot and three people were injured when a software engineer lost control of her car and ran over the pavement on New Thippasandra Road in Jeevan Bima Nagar police limits on Tuesday.

According to the police, the accident occurred at around 8.45 a.m. when Ruby Sharma, who works at an IT firm in Bagmane Tech Park, was driving to work.

“We suspect that she pressed the accelerator instead of the clutch while negotiating a curve on the first gear. As a result the car got onto the footpath and knocked down four people,” said a police officer.

Kokila, 36, a roadside flower vendor, succumbed to her injuries at Manipal Hospital. The other three pedestrians who sustained injuries are said to be out of danger. Ruby has been charged with rash and negligent driving and causing death due to negligence. “As she is a woman we did not want to hold her in the police station for the night. She will be formally arrested on Wednesday,” said a senior police officer.

Two killed in road accident

Two youths were killed on the spot after a truck knocked down their bike at Chikkajala, near Ballari Road, in the early hours of Tuesday. The deceased, Chetan S., 20, and his cousin Somashekar G., 21, were residents of Chokkanahalli in Bagalur and used to work in a water purifier plant at Kannamangala.

The accident occurred at around 5.45 a.m. The police are looking for the truck driver.
