Officials in Bengaluru reported on Friday that a 52-year-old lady had been taken into custody for allegedly strangling her transgender live-in partner to death with a towel following a furious quarrel.
On May 3, the corpse of 42-year-old Manju Naik was found at her home in the eastern Bengaluru neighbourhood of Murugeshpalya. Manju used to live with Prema, the lady who is accused.
When neighbors reported smelling a bad odor emanating from the couple’s home, the authorities found Manju’s decomposing corpse.
Bengaluru Police detained Prema after a preliminary investigation.
Naik had been living with Prema as a couple for twenty years, having transformed his gender after being biologically born as a trans boy, according to the authorities.
The pair began fighting on April 26 when Manju became intoxicated. He began beating Prema during the heated argument. She used a towel to strangle Naik when he tried to attack her with a knife.
On May 3, the police found Manju’s body.
Bengaluru Police’s DCP East, Kuldeep Kumar, discussed the incident by saying, “There was a foul smell coming in from the house.” That’s how we learned that this had occurred.”
A case has been filed in this regard under many sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and additional investigation work is currently under progress.
