Bengaluru: In wake of state-wide Bandh called in Tamil Nadu against Karnataka government on Tuesday, August 30, the Karnataka State Road Transport department has decided to suspend fleets on Tamil Nadu routes.
In a statement released by state transport department, 400 buses operating between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will be suspended for a day as precautionary measures. Several pro farmers’ and other pro Tamil Nadu outfits have called for state-wide Bandh protesting against Karnataka’s stand over the issue. The decision came as the state run buses and other vehicles from the state are the most vulnerable target for the miscreants in case violence breaks out during protest.
However, following the footsteps of state transport department’s decision even Tamil Nadu state run buses have been called off.
Karnataka had recently denied to release water immediately for standing Sambha crops in that state, citing poor water storage in the state’s reservoirs.
It can be recalled that a delegation from Tamil Nadu had met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently and placed requested to release water for the crop. The Tamil Nadu government had approached Supreme Court over the same and hearing is to come up on September 2.
Meanwhile, Sangeetha chain of hotels in Chennai has also announced a closed holiday on Tuesday citing possible untoward incident. The hotel chain is run by Kannadiga and have been soft target for pro Tamil outfits whenever conflict between two states pops up.
