Bengaluru: While several Bengaluru denizens opted to stay away from voting, a fact evident by the low voter turnout in the state capital, a scientist who had flown all the way from England only to cast his vote was disappointed to find that he could not do so.

A voter from the Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency Rakesh Tiwari, 35, was disappointed to find out that he would not be able to cast his vote as the election commission, in order to maintain sanctity of voting process had deferred polling in this constituency to May 28 after recovery of nearly 10000 voter IDs from a flat here.

Rakesh who had been working with Indian Institute of Science in Pune before moving to UK two years ago had planned his India trip in a way that he would be able to vote as well as conduct his research work in Pune.

Rakesh is due to present his research on the subject – ‘Co-occurrence of heat waves and drought in Karnataka’before a panel of scientists at Indian Meteorological Department in Pune on May 28.

Since the presentation as well as rescheduled date of RR nagar polls fall on the same day Rakesh would not be able to exercise his franchise.

“I am highly disappointed. I won’t be able to vote on May 28. My presentation is scheduled for the same day,” he said.
