
Tumkur : T.B. Jayachandra, State Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs has warned of legal action against sugar factory owners who fail to clear the arrears running up to Rs 4000 crores to the sugarcane growers.
Speaking to the media men here, the minister said already a meeting of sugarcane growers has been held. Even four cabinet ministers have held talks with sugar factory owners and directed them to clear the arrears. They have also been reminded that there is scope in law to file either file a civil or cminal case against them if they fail to heed.
Presently there is a stock of 41 lakj quintals of sugar. OThe price if sugar is increasing. Of the Rs 10,000 crore arrears, the factory owners have cleared Rs 6000 crores and have to now clear the balance amount.
The factories owe the payment towards 2100 tonnes of sugarcane, he said. The government’s only intention is to ensure that arrears are cleared, he further stated.
